The Intern: The race is on?

UPDATED: The Blog was tooling around the old Facebook and noticed that at least a couple of The Intern candidates appear to be making moves to garner support for their efforts at SNDBoston. We caution: This report is based on, oh, four or five solid minutes of, um, reporting, so it may not be complete.

But, still, two folks -- Allisence Chang of Michigan State and Bridget O'Donnell from the University of Michigan -- appear to being use the old InterWebs to, well, put their best foot forward.

In fact, Ms. O'Donnell has launched a site that posits just that platform ... and collectible buttons look to somehow be involved. Her Michigan friends also point out that Ms. O'Donnell has a lot of Facebook support in her quest for No. 1 at the Intern competition.

Ms. Chang, meantime, has a group of worshippers on Facebook, though a cursory audit shows these folks may have been fans before this particular competition began. Comments on her group note that one Carrie Hoover also hails from Michigan State. Ms. Hoover, as you may recall, was last year's big Intern winner in Orlando and Ms. Chang's followers believe this bodes well for repeat success in Boston.

And, yes, The Blog does not usually use courtesy titles but, hey, we were perusing that Boston program and all The New York Times folks on the menu put us in the mood. Plus we know that one of the places an Intern winner could work is, coincidentally, America's paper of record.

Let's be clear, though: The Blog remains neutral on the race. As fair and balanced as, well, any leading news organization. Maybe more ... We know that the fun of watching The Intern competition unfold is getting to meet the contestants.

Who are those other students? The final 10 also include Darla Cameron from Missouri, Nicole Davis from Ohio, Amy Duncan from Ball State, Adrienne Dye from Indiana, Carl Hennies and Rebecca Rolfe from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Travis Larchuck from Penn State, and Stephanie Yiu from Northwestern.

So, hey, if any of you Intern candidates have grassroots efforts we should hear about, drop a comment on this post or shout in our ear and we will publicize it.

The Blog hears students are arriving in Boston on Sunday for an opening night event, so we fully expect they will be getting their collective game on soon. Count us here at The Blog among the most eager of observers: We will be watching and reporting the race all through SNDBoston!
