The Orlando Sentinel's Bonita Burton was elected secretary/treasurer of The Society for News Design. The election results were announced at the Friday business luncheon at SND's annual conference at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston.

"It was one of the closest votes in SND history," said SND President Scott Goldman, senior editor for visuals at the Indianapolis Star. "Both Bonita and Denise Reagan were extremely worthy candidates and valued long-time contributors to SND."

SND secretary/treasure Matt Mansfield, deputy managing editor at the San Jose Mercury News, said "I worked closely with Bonita for many years and I know she will bring her strong leadership skills to this position in the Society."

SND's secretary/treasurer serves one year and then is automatically nominated for vice president the following year, and then president after that.

The higher cost, just FYI, is due to the rush shipment we had to make of the book in order to get it to Boston in time for the workshop.

SND members will receive the book in the next few weeks in the mail.
