It's not too late

There's still time left to register for this weekend's Quick Course in Fresno! Head over to SND.org for info on both the design course (Saturday) and new media training (Friday).

Site chair Kris Eldred passes along some extra info about Saturday's sessions:

"Have at least five people your paper wants to send to SND's Design Quick Course on Sept. 15 in Fresno? Then SND will give you its member rate of $95 per person instead of the non-member rate of $150, even if you aren't an SND member. That's a minimum savings of $275.

Big ideas for small papers: Using different visual strategies to turn stories into centerpieces (Joe Kieta of the Merced Sun-Star and Joe Tarica of The San Luis Obispo Tribune).

Communication: Collaboration is at the core of excellent storytelling. But it can be fun and games, too. How? Check out some tantalizing tips to create covers that pop (Shraddha Swaroop of The Virginian-Pilot).

Saving time: Why modular page designs are a practical time-saving solution now more than ever before. We'll also cover other useful tips for illustrations, clip art and meetings (Val Mina and Margaret Spengler, both with The Sacramento Bee).

Covering the big story: Lessons the Merc has learned from Bill Walsh and Barry Bonds (Jonathon Berlin and Kevin Wendt, both with the San Jose Mercury News).

Speakers will also have one-on-one time to talk individually at the end of the day."

And if you're in town Friday night, come meet up for food and drinks:

WHERE: Sequoia Brewing Company, 777 East Olive in Fresno
WHEN: 7 p.m.

See you in Fresno! And stay tuned to The Blog for notes and handouts from the sessions.
