A nice reliant automobile

If you like logo design and corporate branding -- and The Blog knows it does -- you should absolutely bookmark the Brand New blog. It's all about recent logo redesigns with opinions and commentary. Two recent updates:

THE GOOD:
The logo update from the L.A. Galaxy of the MLS. With David Beckham joining the team, the Galaxy went with a look that screams "International Football Club." A good direction, considering the old logo screamed "Video game The Blog used to play at the pizza place down the street. In 1985."



AND THE BAD:
Chrysler's "new" logo. What were they thinking here? Sure, they are celebrating their divorce from Daimler, but they had only recently gotten The Blog to associate "Chrysler" with "cool." But now, with one quick logo change, The Blog is not thinking "300" or "Crossfire" but more "K-Car." Nice work.

To be fair, though, the Pentastar never truly went away. Dealer signage uses it to this day, for instance.

It probably is more recognizable as Chrysler's symbol as the recently adopted 1930s-Chrysler-badge-in-1990s-wings.

Plus, the Pentastar will only identify the corporation. Chrysler cars will still carry the wings. Thankfully, they won't slap the Pentastar on the fenders, like they tried in the 1990s (and General Motors is doing with its logo right now). Dodge will still have its Ram and Jeep will still have its logotype, which goes back to the 1970s, and the stylized CJ grille logo.

On the L.A. Galaxy's new logo, all I can think of is the steel industry's logo... or that of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
