Beefing up in Boston

The Boston Globe just added two more talented designers to their already impressive staff. Is the Globe stacking the deck for the annual SND workshop it's hosting this October? Might not be a bad idea, considering the scope of the event.

Whatever the case, The Blog sends its best praise and high admiration to Globe design director Dan Zedek for finding time to hire as he preps for SNDBoston!

But on to the news: Kristin Lenz joined the staff as page one and projects designer last week. Until recently Kristin has been a projects and back-up front page designer for the Hartford Courant, where her work received 13 awards from the Society for News Design this year. Kristin has has also been recognized for her work at the Orange County Register and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. And Kristin, of course, is the regional director for SND in New England -- an all-around good person with no shortage of talent. Kudos on the new gig, Kristin!

But wait, there's more ... Robert Davis, most recently of the Florida Times-Union, started at the Globe last week with an assignment in metro design and layout. Robert replaces Arist Frangules, who is moving to the business desk at the Globe. Robert has been a reporter, editor, and designer for the Times-Union and, before that, the Jacksonville Business Journal. Best of luck in Boston, Robert.

And to all our readers: The Blog can't wait to get to SNDBoston this fall and meet you all. We'll be setting up shop there to report all the news from the annual workshop. We hope you will help us by uploading your photos, videos, podcasts, and much more. We'll get you more information on how to join in the group coverage as the workshop gets closer!
